About the Artist

Louisiana-born & Arkansas-raised, Taja Janel is a multidisciplinary artist based in New Orleans. Taja Janel studied photography and design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago

Her craft is deeply influenced by her ancestry & familial heritage. She is the descendant of farmers and the original black cowboys that roamed the mid-South. Memories of her grandmother rolling her own tobacco and riding horseback coupled with the colors, the warmth of the people, and the mysterious allure of New Orleans can be experienced through her art.

Professionally, Taja Janel has worked with Planned Parenthood, Target, Son of A Saint, and has collaborated with artists such as Ferrari Sheppard, Tarriona Ball, Simphiwe Ndzube, and Cubs the Poet. Her works have been showcased in the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans Museum of Art, and the Crevasse 22 | River House.
